The UK's military role in Afghanistan since 2001 has not been without its human toll. Members of the British Army, RAF, Royal Marines and special forces have lost their lives in the fight against the Taliban. At the time of our event the number of British military deaths stood at 391

Lichfield Lizards Motorcycle club and guest's gathered together on a cold winters day to honour and show respect to our fallen Afghan heroes by partaking in a photograph with everyone holding the name of one of the 391 fallen heroes.

Taking part in this event was family members and personal friends of the fallen who have had to endure the pains of loosing there mates and loved ones, we also have quite a number of serving personnel and veterans some have recently returned from deployment and some are awaiting deployment. We had one particular soldier taking part that had lost his legs to an IED (improvised explosive devise) to add to his own trauma six days after his incident he sadly lost a very good friend to another IED this soldier made the trip from his rehabilitation centre in Hedley Court to honour his lost friend I think that really demonstrates the guts and dedication of a Brave British soldier.

We would like to pay tribute to the following for there help and support at our event,

The Act of Remembrance by Councillor Bernard Derrick The Chairman Of Lichfield District Council,

Councillor Brian Bacon The Lord Mayor Of Lichfield for reciting a very fitting poem and for his closing speech, 13 year old Chloe Whitelaw who beautifully sang Make You Feel My Love,

Thanks to local business's for there support and help: Robert Yardley Photography, Tippers Tool Hire, DMG Auto’s Alrewas, High Range, Lichfield Social Club, Lichfield Council Highways department, Ian Newy, Mark Gallagher, Kevin Griffiths, Jake Maddox.

We also utilised this event to raise awareness and support for another cause.

For a great number of our service personnel the trauma of war doesn't end when they return home, Britain faces a "ticking time bomb" of mental illness and suicide among our young armed forces veterans who return home from hand-to-hand combat in Afghanistan.

A lack of mental health care for veterans, combined with the stress of combat, will mean many survivors of the conflict pay a heavy price with psychological problems.

Servicemen and women are exposed to stresses that most people won't be exposed to in their lives. In Afghanistan they are exposed to them quite early in their careers. There is a general lack of understanding about how intense these stresses can be."

The Lichfield Branch Staffordshire Regiment Association are running a series of events to raise awareness and financial aid to help combat this hidden killer there nominated  charity is called “Combat Stress”. There Enemy Within Appeal is designed to help treat the escalating number of psychologically injured Veterans who are turning to them for help.

To show our support and help boost there funding all we ask is that each participant donates £1 for the name sheet and all money raised on our event will be donated to the Lichfield Branch of the Staffordshire Regiment’s funding.
